Un médico argentino del hospital Johns Hopkins habla del récord del mapa que diseñaron para el coronavirus: “Cada día tiene 1.500 millones de visitas”
Oscar Cingolani es director asociado de la unidad coronaria del prestigioso hospital estadounidense. El mapa diseñado por ese centro de salud, que se ve en las páginas de El Podio Políitico, tiene una audiencia récord y es una referencia a nivel global.

Oscar Cingolani es un cardiólogo argentino, egresado de la Universidad de La Plata y ex jefe de internación del Centro de Educación Médica e Investigaciones Clínicas “Norberto Quirno” (CEMIC). Hoy es profesor de la Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine y director asociado de la unidad coronaria de cuidados críticos del prestigioso hospital. En diálogo con esta corresponsal, Cingolani resalta el enorme impacto mundial de ese planisferio: “Cada día, el mapa ha tenido un promedio de 1.500 millones de visitas”, apunta. Y que es la primera vez que el hospital hace un seguimiento de este tipo que tiene una asombrosa visibilidad, si se tiene en cuenta que en el mundo hay 7.500 millones de personas.
En el estado de Maryland, donde está ubicado este centro de salud, no hay todavía una ola de casos masivos como en New York, pero este lunes el gobernador ordenó a la gente que se quedara en sus casas, cuando antes solo existía una recomendación. Sin embargo, Cingolani cuenta que en el Hopkins, que tiene 1.500 camas, están preparándose para el pico del brote en las próximas semanas. Además, señala que están aplicando varios ensayos con medicamentos y también el tratamiento de “plasmaféresis” de suero de pacientes recuperados, que se desarrolló con éxito en los 70 en Argentina para la fiebre hemorrágica o el “mal de los rastrojos”.
Fue un esfuerzo conjunto, especialmente del equipo de bio ingeniería de la Universidad de Johns Hopkins, que trabaja activamente con nosotros. En realidad, este es un trabajo muy serio que se inició desde el comienzo, ni bien China empezó a reportar los casos. Se hizo la base de datos y se comenzó a reportar estos casos en forma de mapa. Gracias a la Organización Mundial de la Salud y a otros gobiernos, todos aportaron datos. La validez que tiene esta base de datos es que es muy confiable. Si bien hay otras páginas que reportan números más altos, estos son casos validados por cada gobierno, informados y confirmados.
